1978 Alfetta GTV 2000 to Turbodelta Gr. 4 replica

This is our 1978 Alfetta GTV 2000, a much raced car in Historic Rallyes. Now is going to serve as base for a Turbodelta rGr. 4 racer. This blog compile past history and the construction  process of an Alfetta Turbodelta Group 4, an accurate replica of the car raced by Mauro Pregliasco in the 1980 european rally season.

This cars has done more than 30 rallyes and meetings, some of them adding 800km to the odometer in just one weekend. I have tons of pictures sourced from here an there, so hera are some rally footage with Alfetta GTV in action.

Alfa Romeo Alfetta Turbodelta Gp. 4 replica

Alfa Romeo had toyed with the Alfetta GT and Alfetta Group 2 in rallying. These weren't very big efforts but they were still doing something. In 1980 the Alfetta GTV Turbodelta was already homologated in FIA Group 4, since the required number of production cars had been built. A racing version was campaigned in rallies, but once more, the effort was abandoned after a single season, despite scoring a win at the Danube Rally.

Turbodelta project starts

I took the decission: the Turbodelta Gp.4 replica project has just started February, 2010.

The first steps are to find the correct parts and bits and to dismantle the car and evaluate the areas to fix in this 32 years old bodyshell. Along with the repairs we will reinforce the body by seam welding some areas, adding strengtening plates and some more tubes to the roll cage, to comply with moder safety rules.

Alfetta GTV: First day at home

A friend of mine offered me a 1978 Alfetta GTV 2000. The cars was prepared for Historic and Navigational rallyes and was much campaigned. Car was in working condition, with nice body shape but some minor faults to solve. The car also came with a truckload of spares, including another Alfetta GTV 2000, almost complete. The deal was done, and I get the car and the spares.
